Churndash nine!

Previously I showed you a quarter of a quilt which I had made, inspired by a quilt by Julie from juliekquilts.

I have worked a bit more on this one yesterday evening and this is how far I managed to get

And here is Emily - she just couldn't help herself but get involved!  Isn't she pretty and nonchalant looking?

Who would have thought she had just been racing backwards and forwards, and ended up running up this tree?

But back to the quilt....

I really like it but wonder what to do next?

Border or no border?  Julie's quilt had a four patch and outer plain border.

At the moment I am thinking another narrow sashing all the way around but I don't think I have enough thirties fabric so it will have to be a solid fabric instead - I'm thinking red.  The tiny cornerstones can still be in thirties fabric and will help to finish my last scraps off.  Then possibly a white border ....and then?  Binding? Another border? Or I'm tempted to just go straight to binding in red now?

I'm not sure yet...thinking caps on girls what is your advice?

More Rose Dreams!

I posted about this block here! a couple of days ago.  I had completed 3 blocks during or shortly after the workshop I attended in October 2009!

I am pleased to say I have now doubled my total to six!

Here they are displayed together - not yet stitched together as I am waiting to see how the other blocks will fit in!

I am loving the pattern across the blocks and the dark, medium and light value that is beginning to show with just the two colours.

What I forgot to tell you before is the white fabric is an old sheet so I am doing a bit of recycling as well.

The quilt pattern is for 36 blocks so I am one sixth of the way there...!  I don't know whether to be happy or sad at this news....???

Recycling makes beautiful boxes!

Over on fab designer Kate Spain's blog The Drawing Board she has posted about her new line of fabric (worth seeing!  drool) but also about her recycling habits to celebrate Happy Earth Day.

Well here is one of my recycling tips.

I take these cat food boxes:

Its ok they are clean as they contain the pouches my cats like to devour - and turn them into containers to hold pieces I have cut for my quilts or even fat quarters I want to keep together for a project I haven't got around to yet:

And sometimes I even prettify them like this:

or this:

It's amazing what you can store in one box!  12 lovely red/cream fat quarters in the second photo - and some may actually be 1/2 m - all sitting together ready to inspire me, visible but not in a heap!

With different covers on I can more readily remember where I stored something as I always have more than one project on the go!  Don't you???

Go out and buy Whiskas pouches for your cats  -  only the 24 Bumper Packs will do but you do get two!  Wonder if they will send me some free cat food for this bit of advertising!???  No, I thought not...to be honest, I'd rather they sent me some fabric, and Kate Spain's Terrain would be a good start!

If you cannot get these boxes or for some bizarre reason do not have a cat (lol) start looking in your supermarket for products you do want with the right shape of box!

Go recycle but first leave me a comment about your top tip!
