Big shake up!

There has been a big move around in my sewing room thanks to the delivery of this new big table from Horn!  It is sleek, modern, sturdy and adjustable.  You can even fold the top down if you like.  Bit hard to sew on it like that though...

They are selling like hot cakes apparently.  I can see why!

The nice young delivery man brought it in - carrying it rather than rolling it's lovely wheels across my path.  Then he popped my machine in and made sure it was adjusted to the right height before placing the insert which was cut to fit my machine.  In fact that happened several times to get it just right.  Which gave him the opportunity to pick up a fair bit of dust from my floor! Oops !

 I might be a bit in love.....with the table !

I now have a lovely L shaped work surface to be happy stitching in!

Naked!

Clothed!   Well trying to hide the rubbish underneath actually...

Still got to try out machine stitching with the new arrangement!   Slightly nervous for some reason - maybe a little bit in awe!  

As I have another Siblings Together top that needs quilting I'd better get over it quick!

Scraptastic Tuesday - the late edition!

I've been busy, busy, busy working on those #Siblings Together quilts!

I cannot see any let up until I have finished all the ones I have fabric for or we reach our 100 target.   [We are close - see nos. 75 and 78 below!]

Since last week I have finished another pie quilt!

That is no. 5!

And the reason I got it started/finished is down to my lovely friend Trudi!

She is such a treasure!

So here it is!

All fabric provided by Trudi - I just put it together!

And here is another quilt I finished for #siblingstogether - I just quilted this one!   The blocks were provided by many and put together by Mary Emmens

Scraptastic Tuesday - May Winners

Just to tease you I will show you what I've been doing scrappy-wise first! (I know I always do!)

You remember the Not-Just-For-Christmas quilt, (this seems to have become it's name), I've been working on for #siblingstogether!?   


Well not-quite-a-finish but maybe today I will get it done.  For the eagle eyed amongst you anywhere there are pins there is still some quilting required.  


How could I not have a go at custom quilting this - it was crying out for it!

This is the scrappy back...which shows up the quilting better perhaps?   A few IKEA scraps and leftovers from the front....(front fabrics supplied by the lovely @janesquilts)

A few details.....Amish or Baptist fans, straight lines, cross hatching, bubbles and feathery bits!  Can you tell I've been having fun?

All there, but not so noticeable on the front...

One day I'd love to quilt a wholecloth quilt.... it's on 'my list' !

Spcraptastic Tuesday - the May Link up

I have been busy making lots of quilts for #siblingstogether recently.  The deadline approaches - we are making for camps starting in July!

I received some fabric and orphan blocks from @janesquilts - a donation for #siblingstogether.  

I just needed to think of a design.   

I love my design wall - it just beats a bed or floor for laying things out on!  No pets on it for one thing and no need to clear it away.

I can leave fabric up there until a design comes to mind which I feel is even more important with scraps!  It didn't disappoint with this project.

And after a bit of playing it started to work....even with another project underneath to begin with!

This is how this project looks like now!  Completed top ready for basting...

Could be one of my favourites - probably because it was so unexpected!


Is it a Christmas quilt?  It has a flavour of Christmas for sure, but I'm hoping whoever receives it, doesn't think it is just for Christmas!

Like buses finishes come in threes!

This is the only other quilt finish to show you for now!   I think I have caught up!

This is a solids version of my Interwoven quilt  - free tutorial on the Simply Solids blog.

This quilt is a whole lot easier as it is made in non-directional fabric.   It doesn't matter which way the fabric faces, though for the pattern to work, the blocks do need to be the right way around!

Another Finish!

I did mean to show you this quilt the day after my tutorial was published on the Simply Solids blog but then forgot to do it.

Probably as I was busy finishing other quilts ....yes there is another one to come

I'm calling it Interwoven and I made it from some of the prints from the Maker line of fabric by Art Gallery Fabric.   I do love working with their fabrics as they feel so smooth and silky - more like Liberty lawn than the usual quilting cotton.


It is now up in Huddersfield with the Simply Solids crowd - well in the shop I believe...

This one was a completed top last time I posted about it!


And now it is quilted in the ditch and joining the pile ready to go to the Sibling Together Summer camps

The backing fabric was pieced together from a bit of donated fabric and some others from my stash that seemed to go with it.

It's not on my list, not on any list, but the fabric was kindly donated by Nick @quiltsfromtheattic and it would have been rude not to use it!

Scraptastic Tuesday - a scrappy finish!

I started a clamshell quilt back in about July 2014.

I used my sizzix machine to cut out my clamshells which made the job of piecing them all by hand a whole lot easier.   They were all the same size and shape!

 A charm square was just the right size to go through my sizzix for this shape - I have stacks of charms;  some from charm swaps and some I had cut myself from stash.

I tend to cut a few charms from any new fabric coming in so I get to play with it a little as once upon a time I just worked with my scraps and didn't touch my stash - now it seems like the other way around though Scraptastic Tuesday is helping!

Anyway I pieced all my clamshells together 

Added a border in Kona Pear by adding partial clamshells as I couldn't bear to trim them off!

And then hand quilted with a deep purple (229) Finca Perle Cotton no. 12 thread.  I just followed round the inside of each and every of my 480 clamshells.   This took quite a while..... 

Then this weekend I decided I would quilt a flutter of clamshells tumbling every which way in the border - this time in green (1223).  

I have yet to add my add my label details on the inside of a few of those clamshells - maybe when I finally decide what to name the quilt!  



I used a navy white check type print by Lotta Jansdotter as my binding,.. 

..which nicely finished off the front but also went well with the gorgeous Art Gallery Fabric I used a backing.  You can perhaps see the quilting on the back too!

I am so very happy with how this quilt turned out.   For me it has a strong traditional look but yet has a few touches of the modern about it!
